Weekly Share Spotlight 6/30/2017

It has been an eventful week on the farm. You'll be getting green tomatoes in your share (don't worry, there will be lovely ripe red ones too). You may be thinking it's not the right time of year to have green tomatoes as folks usually use them at the end of the season when they won't have time to ripen. Well, Sunday's windstorm caused some damage to the frame of our hoop house where one of the tomato trellis cables ties in. As a result, two beds of tomato plants hit the ground. One bed was our huge slicers, the biggest and heaviest we've ever grown. We were able to repair the framing and run a new cable. We saved all but two of the plants. However, in the process of falling, many green tomatoes fell off the plants. After the tears dried, we figured there is nothing to do but share them with all of you. Tonight we are having fried green tomatoes, something I've always intended to try. I found this LINK with all kinds of green tomato recipes. I also want to try the green tomato bread.

In addition to the tomatoes, this week's share will have green and yellow zucchini, salad mix, sugar snap peas, radish, red cabbage or fennel, basil, beets, and kale or chard.

If you haven't tried it yet, I've been thin slicing fennel into our green salads and have found it to be a great way to use it.

See you at the farm!
