Another smokey week! These weeks get a bit frustrating as we are not able to spend the time outside that we want and need to at the farm! Nevertheless, the food keeps growing. This week the melons will make an appearance! We will also have leeks, potatoes, tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, squash, garlic, tomatillos, poblanos, kale or lettuce (depending on the heat the next couple of days) and onions. You will be getting several onions as we have discovered many that won’t store due to black spot (effects onions grown in excessive heat - go figure). The onions are great to use now and we checked the tops of many to make sure to remove the spots (if you find any more just wash or cut off affected part), but they won’t store. So, it’s a week for onion rings or pickled onions, or do what we just did today and chop them up and pop them in a freezer bag for a shortcut when life gets busy! I wrote about traditional chile rellenos last week but our chickens are molting and I can’t stand buying a dozen eggs to make them every week so I am looking for other recipes for stuffed poblanos. There are a lot of them out there! I am trying this one tonight (subbing fresh tomatoes for canned of course).

See you Friday at the farm!
